Product Details

Colorless to reddish-brown, flammable oily liquid

Relative density: 0.9891

Melting point: -57°C

Boiling point: 196.25°C

Refractive index: 1.5684

Discoloration upon prolonged storage

Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, and chloroform

Preparation: Aniline and methanol are reacted over a copper-zinc-chromium catalyst to produce a crude product. The crude product is then subjected to simple distillation and vacuum distillation to remove methanol, water, aniline, and N,N-methylaniline to obtain the finished product.

Uses: Used as an intermediate, solvent, and acid acceptor in organic synthesis.
