Magnesium oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgO. It is an oxide of magnesium, an ionic compound. It is a white solid at room temperature. Magnesium oxide exists in nature in the form of periclase and is the raw material for magnesium smelting. It is a white fine powder. Odorless. Due to different preparation methods, it is divided into light and heavy. It has strong refractive properties in the visible and near-ultraviolet light range. It is easy to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide when exposed to air and gradually becomes basic magnesium carbonate, which combines with water to form magnesium hydroxide, showing a slightly alkaline reaction. It is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in dilute acid, and insoluble in alcohol.
Light magnesium oxide is a chemically synthesized product with high content, white color, loose volume, and white amorphous powder.
Heavy magnesium oxide is a mineral burning product, mostly beige.
Heavy magnesium oxide is divided into light-burned magnesium oxide powder and heavy-burned magnesium oxide powder due to different sintering temperatures. Heavy-burned powder is mainly used to make high-temperature resistant materials. Light-burned powder is divided into desulfurization powder and building material powder.
PRODUCT USES
Mainly used in the production of magnesia products. Light burning magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride aqueous solution are mixed in a certain proportion to gel and harden into a hardened body with certain physical and mechanical properties, which is called magnesia cement. Magnesia cement, as a new type of cement, has the advantages of light weight, high strength, fireproof and heat insulation, energy saving and environmental protection, and can be widely used in building materials, municipal administration, agriculture, machinery and other fields.
1. In the construction industry, magnesium oxide can be used to make artificial marble, insulation board, magnesium-containing special cement and other building materials.
2. Heavy magnesium oxide is used for firing powder grinding and half-drum in the rice milling industry. The construction industry is used to make artificial chemical floors, artificial marble heat-proof boards, sound insulation boards, and the plastic industry is used as fillers. It can also be used to produce other magnesium salts.
3. Magnesium oxide can be used to make ceramics, enamel and other daily necessities.
4. Magnesium oxide can also be used for water treatment.
